"Shot as the ‘Woman, Life, Freedom’ movement was building support in the country following the killing of Mahsa Amini, Farshad Hashemi’s feature directorial debut gradually peels away the layers of Mahboube’s life as she comes to terms with the limitations she faces as a woman, and a history she has long chosen to suppress but which now haunts her waking hours. At the same time, the film is a reflection on the nature of filmmaking, exploring its capacity to truly capture the complexity of everyday lives."
-Vanja Kaludjercic, IFF Rotterdam

"Me, Maryam, the Children and 26 Others quietly unfolds a cross sectional portrait of Iranian life all from the confines of Mahboube’s humble home where two cameras are rolling — Hashemi and Farhad’s — revealing truth at 24 frames per second."
-Kevin Jagernauth, ION Cinema

"Me, Maryam, the Children and 26 Others is a film that captivates because Hashemi’s writing is well-constructed, his mise-en-scène is clear and his use of it to connect scenes together is remarkably elegant, and both Gholami and the director himself are very convincing as the film’s two central characters."
-Marc Van de Klashorst, International Cinephile Society

Synopsis

When Mahboubeh, a woman in her thirties, decides to rent out her home to a film crew for six days, her tranquil and solitary existence is suddenly upended. Intrigued by the group’s interactions and inspired by the storyline of their short film, Mahboubeh finds herself compelled to confront unresolved aspects of her past. However, as the final day of their stay approaches, she faces a pivotal decision: whether to cling to her familiar life or embrace the opportunity for a transformative new chapter.
